Short Description

The SmartElectricDrives Library is a software tool specifically designed to support and ease simulations for electric drive applications with Modelica language. The SmartElectricDrives Library eases the simulation and optimization of general purpose drive applications as well as high performance drive applications.

Long Description

Objective of this library is to comprehensively support the development process of electrical drives which allows the user to build, test and compare various kinds of drive configurations in order to find the most suitable drive system solution, tailor made for the desired application. Based on their specific requirements, electric drive applications can be classified as general purpose electric drive applications and high performance drive applications. General purpose drive applications are characterized by small speed ranges and low dynamic response requirements, whereas high performance drive applications must fulfil a number of more demanding specifications such as high static control precision, fast dynamic response, overload capability; speed ranges that are significantly above the nominal speed etc. For industrial processes and applications with electric drive systems the following solutions can be achieved:

  1.  Design and optimization of a drive system
  2.  Design, investigation and optimization of components, operation and control strategies
  3.  Investigation of transient and quasi stationary behavior of the electric drive system
  4.  Investigation and optimization of energy flows

Major components of the SmartElectricDrives library:

  1.  Asynchronous induction machines, permanent magnet synchronous induction machines, dc machines
    1. • Development regarding induction machines
      Parameter estimation from nameplate: allows the determination of the consistent parameters of squirrel cage induction motors from name plate data
      • Development regarding machine losses
      The Advanced Machines library

  2.  Field oriented control, brushless dc control
  3.  Converters (ideal, switching)
    1. •Development regarding converter losses
      The AdvancedMachines library

  4.  Sources (batteries, supercaps, fuel cells)
